The No. 9 Ohio State women’s tennis team notched a 4-0 sweep over Maryland on Sunday in College Park, Md., securing a second-place finish in the Big Ten and a double-bye in the conference tournament.

The win over Maryland pushed the Buckeyes to an 18-6 record and a 10-1 mark in Big Ten play to close the regular season, with their lone conference loss coming to eventual Big Ten champion Michigan on April 16 in Ann Arbor.

Against the Terrapins, Ohio State overcame an early deficit during the doubles session, with Maryland’s tandem of Jojo Bach and Hannah McColgan beating Ohio State’s Irina Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal in the first completed match. But the Buckeyes quickly claimed the next two doubles victories and the point, with the duo of Kolie Allen and Danielle Wilson, as well as the tandem of Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak, cruising to wins.

Holding the 1-0 lead entering singles play, Wilson swiftly dominated Francesca Feodorov 6-1, 6-0 to push Ohio State ahead by two. Marzal quickly followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over McColgan, putting the Buckeyes just one point away from the sweep.

Siemers — who is ranked No. 18 in singles by the ITA — claimed victory for the Buckeyes with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marta Perez Mur on Court 1, moving to 20-9 in singles matches on the season.

The Big Ten Tournament will begin on Wednesday at noon in West Lafayette, Ind., but Ohio State will not make its first appearance until Friday at 3 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
