With football games scheduled for less than a month away, the preseason Amway Coaches Poll was released on Thursday, and Ohio State came in at No. 2 trailing just Clemson in the rankings.
Behind the Buckeyes was Alabama, Georgia and LSU with the three SEC teams ranking No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Clemson received 38 of the first-place votes and led with 1,589 points, while Ohio State received 17 of the votes and trailed with 1,555 points. Alabama earned four first-place votes, while LSU received the other six.
Ohio State was one of six Big Ten teams in the top 25, with Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa coming in at No. 7, No. 12, No. 15, No. 18 and No. 23. Nebraska (three points) and Indiana (one point) each received votes, but did not make it into the top 25.
The Buckeyes finished third in the final coaches poll for the 2019 season, coming behind a pair of tiger teams in LSU and Clemson.
