Freshman Wide Receiver Chris Henry Jr. Sheds Black Stripe

Ohio State gained another “official” member of its team on Wednesday when true freshman wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. shed his black stripe after practice.

He becomes the second freshman to do so this spring, joining fellow pass catcher Brock Boyd, who lost his black stripe on March 31. Transfer receivers Kyle Parker and Devin McCuin have also lost their black stripes this spring.

Henry was highly-touted recruit out of high school, joining the Buckeyes as the No. 14 overall prospect in the country and the No. 2-ranked wide receiver in the 2026 class. He had been committed to OSU since the summer of 2023 and ultimately signed with the Buckeyes after the departure of wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

Now Henry is trying to make his mark on the field with Ohio State, and is apparently off to a great start.

Jeremiah Smith, who himself was able to make a big impact as a freshman wide receiver, praised Henry when speaking with the media

“He came in with his head down, just working,” Smith said. “He’s the next one up.”

Henry is competing for a starting spot with former Buckeye Carnell Tate leaving for the NFL draft. He will need to beat out a deep room, which includes the likes of Parker and McCuin to make it onto the field by the fall.
