Former Ohio State men’s basketball guard Michael Redd will be honored on Wednesday by the Buckeye baseball team when he throws out the first pitch for their matchup with Marshall at 6 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium.

A product of West High School in Columbus, Redd played at Ohio State from 1997-2000, starting in all three of his seasons with the Buckeyes. Over that span, Redd averaged 19.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Redd earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1998 and First-Team All-Big Ten recognition in 2000. Redd scored 703 points during his sophomore 1998-99 campaign, which ranks as the seventh most points scored in a single season by an Ohio State player.

The Columbus native declared for the NBA Draft after his junior season and was selected with the 43rd overall pick in the second round by the Milwaukee Bucks. Redd then spent 11 seasons with the Bucks, earning All-Star and All-NBA Third-Team honors in 2004. He then spent one final season with the Phoenix Suns in 2011-12. Redd finished his 12-year NBA career with averages of 19 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

Ohio State baseball will look to win its third straight game against the Thundering Herd as the Buckeyes prepare for a weekend trip to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on Purdue in a three-game series.
