Former Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday.

In a somewhat surprising move, the Dolphins selected Kacmarek with the 87th overall pick in the draft, making him the eighth Buckeye selected in the draft and the fourth player selected on day two of the draft.

Kacmarek started his career at Ohio University and played for the Bobcats for three seasons before transferring to Ohio State.

Kacmarek established himself as a reliable blocking tight end in Athens and earned himself a spot on the Buckeyes’ roster.

Kacmarek’s blocking prowess immediately translated to the Big Ten level, and he earned playing time alongside starter Gee Scott. Kacmarek helped the Buckeyes win the national championship in 2024 when he finished that season with eight catches for 86 yards.

Kacmarek took a major step up last year and split reps with All-Big Ten tight end Max Klare. Kacmarek was one of the best blocking tight ends in the country last year, but also had an improved season as a receiver. He finished the season with 15 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Kacmarek joins a Dolphins squad in desperate need of talent. They went just 7-10 last year and replaced former head coach Mike McDaniel with Jeff Hafley.

Kacmarek joins a tight end room that includes Greg Dulcich and Ben Sims.
