After getting injured on the first play of the national championship game against Alabama, Ohio State running back Trey Sermon is now “doing well” and “will be traveling back to Columbus today,” according to an Ohio State spokesman.
Sermon took his only run of the day two yards before having to leave the game with what appeared to be an upper-body injury. He first went to the locker room before heading to a nearby hospital.
The injury came after Sermon had played his three best games as a Buckeye, rushing for 112 yards against Michigan State, a program-record 331 yards against Northwestern and 193 yards against Clemson. The 524 rushing yards in his previous two games were the most by anybody in Ohio State history.
Sermon, who is a senior that transferred to Ohio State from Oklahoma, can return to the Buckeyes thanks to a free year of eligibility this season, but is considered likely to head to the 2021 NFL Draft.
