Ohio State Freshman Quarterback Julian Sayin Loses Black Stripe

Ohio State freshman quarterback Julian Sayin is continuing an impressive first spring with the Buckeyes, as he became an “official” member of the team on Monday by losing his black stripe.

Sayin is the second freshman to lose their black stripe, joining wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Sayin, the top-ranked quarterback in 2024, is in his first season with the Buckeyes after transferring from Alabama this offseason following the retirement of Nick Saban.

While the quarterback battle for Ohio State has largely focused on Will Howard and Devin Brown, Sayin has impressed in limited action this spring and has even taken some first-team reps. But it will be an uphill climb for Sayin to work his way into the starting discussion, as the talented quarterback room also features Lincoln Kienholz and fellow five-star freshman Air Noland.

Sayin is the ninth Buckeye to lose their black stripe this offseason, joining Smith, wide receiver Brennen Schramm, safety Caleb Downs, running back Quinshon Judkins, Howard, offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin, tight end Will Kacmarek and defensive tackle Will Smith Jr.
