Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Thursday that he expects safety Josh Proctor to be available to play Saturday against Western Kentucky.

Proctor missed last week’s win over Youngstown State with an undisclosed injury, but started the first game of the season at Indiana at adjuster/free safety and is expected to reclaim that position.

“He’ll be available and he’ll play a lot,” Day said. “He’ll be there and we’ll still rotate guys, but Josh will be there and he’ll plan on starting.”

Proctor was subbed out in against Indiana for freshman Malik Hartford, who in turn started against YSU, but Ja’Had Carter ended up taking over for Hartford after just one series in that contest. It was Carter’s first time taking the field for Ohio State, and Day is excited to see him continue to grow as he continues to rotate in for the Buckeyes alongside Proctor and Hartford.

“I think he’s getting back, getting his feet back underneath him,” Day said. “And the more he plays now – that was his first game in the Horseshoe, first game was a Buckeye, really, where he played significant time, and so that’s the starting point. It’s a jumping off point. Now where it goes from there, that’s going to be up to him. You know, he watched the film and knows that there’s areas that we’ve got to improve on, but there was some good things there as well, so he’ll keep growing, he’ll continue to have opportunities.”
