Availability Report: Denzel Burke Out Against Penn State, TreVeyon Henderson And Emeka Egbuka Questionable To Play

By October 21, 2023 (9:00 am)Football

Ohio State will be without cornerback Denzel Burke for the team’s noon kickoff against Penn State, while running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka – who both missed the Buckeyes’ win last weekend over Purdue – are questionable to play.

Burke appeared to injury his ankle last week against Purdue before leaving the game, replaced by freshman cornerback Jermaine Mathews Jr. If Henderson – originally believed to be out for the game but later updated to questionable – remains out, this would be his third consecutive missed game while he continues to deal with an undisclosed injury.

Not listed on Ohio State’s availability report was running backs Miyan Williams and Chip Trayanum, indicating that the rushing duo will be good to go against the Nittany Lions. With both coming off an injury, however, Ohio State may still opt for sophomore Dallan Hayden – who had 11 carries for 76 yards last week – to carry the majority of the load at running back.

Should Egbuka remain out, Ohio State would look to freshman Carnell Tate and sixth-year Xavier Johnson, who both stepped up in the win over Purdue with Egbuka on the sidelines.

Along with Burke, eight other Buckeyes are listed as out against Penn State, though most have been listed as unavailable throughout the season. That list includes defensive lineman Will Smith Jr., linebacker Kourt Williams II, running back T.C. Caffey, tight ends Zak Herbstreit and Joe Royer and wide receivers Nolan Baudo, Kyion Grayes and Reis Stocksdale.
