One of the members of Ohio State’s three top 50 commits in its 2019 class, forward Alonzo Gaffney, officially signed to his next destination with Northwest Florida State College.

“It’s a great feeling to join a program like Northwest Florida and I can’t wait to start the process of preparing for the season,” Gaffney said in a statement. “I have a great a connection with (head) coach (Butch)Β Pierre. The environment at NWF is great, it just felt like the right fit.”

Gaffney played in 17 games for Ohio State last year, but averaged just 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game and was sidelined for much of the final stretch of the season. The former four-star forward out of Cleveland shot 56.5 percent from the floor and had 12 turnovers in 114 minutes of play.

Initially, after Gaffney was set to leave the Ohio State program, it was reported that the 6-9 forward was seeking a professional option as his next step, but ultimately decided to test out the transfer portal.

“He is a great addition to our program and will impact our team greatly,” Pierre said. “He has incredible athleticism, the ability to make big time plays and defend all five positions. Alonzo has the potential to play at the next level, he’s a game-changing player.”

Northwest Florida is a junior college located in Niceville, Fla. and finished the 2019-20 season with a 12-16 record. The Raiders started out winning 12 of their first 16 games before losing the last 12 in a row.
