Get to know Cleveland Glenville four-star tight end Damarion Witten, who signed with Ohio State on Wednesday.

Height, Weight: 6-4, 215

247Sports Composite Rankings: Witten is rated as the nation’s 454th-best player, 28th-best tight end and 18th-best player out of Ohio.

Commitment Date: Witten committed to Ohio State on June 24.

Other Offers: Cincinnati, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin.

How He Did In High School: Witten helped lead Glenville to back-to-back state titles in 2022 and 2023 by emerging as a reliable pass-catcher for the Tarblooders. He hauled in touchdown receptions of 38 and 17 yards in Glenville’s 38-3 state championship game victory over Kettering Alter on Dec. 2, and then earned the U.S Army Bowl MVP on Monday after recording four catches for 96 yards and three touchdowns.

Where He Fits For 2024: The future of Ohio State’s tight end room is murky at best, as it is unclear whether or not Cade Stover has played his last snaps for the Buckeyes. The unit is losing Joe Royer, who entered the transfer portal on Dec. 7, which can open up some space for the emerging Witten to make an immediate impact in 2024 assuming Stover departs.

Witten will still likely be competing for reps alongside fellow 2024 signee Chattanooga (Tenn.) four-star tight end Max LeBlanc (6-4, 222), along with soon-to-be sophomore Jelani Thurman, who is expected to take the next steps in his developments in 2024. This reality will make it difficult for the former Glenville star to see the field much throughout his freshman season. With Witten still needing to fill out physicality and develop as an all-around tight end, expect to see him assume a smaller role in Keenan Bailey’s tight end unit, similar to what Thurman had this season.
