Get to know West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep four-star safety Jaylen McClain, who signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-0, 185
247Sports Composite Ranking: He is rated as the No. 270 overall prospect, 28th-ranked safety and third-ranked recruit out of New Jersey.
Commitment Date: McClain committed to Ohio State on June 12.
Other Offers: Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, USC.
How He Did In High School: McClain started each of the past three seasons at Seton Hall Prep, and recorded 126 tackles with three recovered fumbles, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal in his senior season.
Where He Fits For 2024: Not much should be expected of McClain next season, though as Malik Hartford showed, a freshman can be just a few plays away from seeing the field. That being said, Ohio State has plenty of depth at safety, which should result in mostly a special teams role for McClain in his first season with the Buckeyes.
