Get to know Opa Locka (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who signed with Ohio State on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-3, 198
247Sports Composite Rankings: Smith is rated as the No. 1 overall player in the country regardless of position.
Commitment Date: Smith committed to Ohio State on Dec. 14, 2022.
Other Offers: Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, USC.
How He Did In High School: Smith hauled in 177 receptions for 3,116 yards and 46 touchdowns across three seasons for Chaminade-Madonna, helping them secure a state title in each of those years. He also earned a MaxPreps Junior All-American selection in 2022 and was a MaxPreps National Player of the Year finalist in 2023.
Where He Fits For 2024: Smith will enter head coach Ryan Day’s program as one of Ohio State’s more highly-touted prospects in recent memory, so he will certainly earn his chance to make an early impression throughout the offseason. The nation’s top-ranked recruit already possesses elite-level speed and athleticism, which could allow him to quickly turn the heads of Day and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline.
If Smith proves during spring and fall practice that he can make a seamless transition to the collegiate game and utilize his unique set of skills, he will put himself in prime position to make an immediate impact in Ohio State’s new-look offense in 2024. His chances will only increase if both Mavin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka depart for the NFL, which will likely leave only rising sophomores Carmell Tate and Brandon Inniss as the clear Buckeyes in front of him on the wide receiver depth chart.
