Get to know Springfield, Ohio, five-star cornerback Aaron Scott, who signed with Ohio State on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-2, 190
247Sports Composite Rankings: Scott is tabbed as the No. 34 overall prospect, second-best cornerback, and No. 1 player out of Ohio.
Commitment Date: Scott committed to Ohio State on July 30.
Other Offers: Cincinnati, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
How He Did In High School: Scott served as an all-purpose defensive back for the Wildcats, totaling a combined 42 tackles and seven interceptions in his junior and senior seasons, with two of those takeaways returned for touchdowns. He also stepped up on offense in the 2023 OHSAA Division I playoffs, throwing the game-winning passing touchdown in Springfield’s 26-19 state semifinal win over Cincinnatti Moeller.
Where He Fits For 2024: Ohio State’s cornerback room will look different in 2024, with reserves Jyaire Brown and Ryan Turner having entered the transfer portal this month and starter Denzel Burke’s future with the program still in question. This could create an avenue for Scott to earn some playing time — at least on special teams — if he pops on film during spring and fall practice, similarly to what freshmen Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Calvin Simpson-Hunt accomplished this season.
The Buckeyes will likely return the services of cornerbacks Davison Igbinosun and Jordan Hancock in the secondary, which will make it more difficult for the freshman Scott to see the field. And with Mathews and Simpson-Hunt poised to take the next step in their development, the five-star will have to work to earn his stripes.
