
No. 3 Men’s Tennis Sweeps Buffalo And California To Advance To NCAA Super Regionals
The Ohio State men’s tennis team began its NCAA Tournament with sweeps over Buffalo on Friday and No. 42 California on Saturday at Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, advancing to the Super Regional round.
Ohio State quickly claimed the doubles point against Buffalo as Jack Anthrop and Bryce Nakashima defeated Minjae Kim and Faiz Nasyam 6-2, while the Buckeyes’ No. 8-ranked tandem of Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin topped the Bulls’ Clement Mainguy and Theodoros Mitsakos 6-2.
The Buckeyes dominated early in singles play. No. 95 Filin extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kim, marking his 17th consecutive singles victory. Ohio State’s Loren Byers followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Emiliano Jorquera before No. 32 Anthrop clinched the sweep of Buffalo with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mainguy.
It was more of the same during the Buckeyes Saturday matchup against California in the second round. Ohio State secured the doubles point as No. 44 Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo defeated Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and Tiago Silva 6-4, and No. 45 Aidan Kim and Nakashima earned the doubles point with a 7-6 (3) win over the Golden Bears’ Bernardo Munk-Mesa and Paris Pouatcha.
Aidan Kim provided the first singles point for Ohio State with a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 62 Lechno-Wasiutynski. Filin followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Bernardo Munk-Mesa to extend the Buckeyes’ lead to 3-0. Anthrop then sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tiago Silva on court three, sending the Buckeyes to the third round of the tournament.
Ohio State (31-4) will return to the Auer Tennis Complex on Friday at 4:30 p.m., as the Buckeyes take on No. 14 Illinois in the Super Regionals.
No. 3 Women’s Tennis Claim Sweeps Over Youngstown State And Notre Dame To Move On To NCAA Super Regionals
The Ohio State women’s tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play with a pair of sweeps, defeating Youngstown State on Saturday and Notre Dame on Sunday at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus.
Ohio State opened play Saturday with a decisive win over Youngstown State, securing the doubles point as Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev and Audrey Spencer claimed a 6-3 win over Lorena Cedeno and Diane Piranda, while the Buckeyes’ No. 23 Flora Johnson and Luciana Perry defeated Hanna Telzynska and Yoana Dudova 6-2 to take the doubles point.
In singles, Ohio State won all of its matches in straight sets and held a set and at least a two-game advantage on every remaining court when play was halted. Ohio State’s Johnson beat Dudova 6-1, 6-2, No. 4 Perry defeated Telzynska 6-1, 6-0 and Alessia Cau took down Line Greyling 6-1, 6-0 to finish off the Buckeyes’ sweep. All six Buckeyes took their opening sets while dropping just five games combined.
The momentum carried into Sunday’s second-round matchup against Notre Dame. Ohio State again claimed the doubles point as Cisse-Ignatiev and Spencer claimed a 6-1 win over Akari Matsuno and Mari-Louise Van Zyl, and the Buckeyes’ Johnson and Perry defeated the Irish’s Bianca Molnar and Jessica Kovalcik 6-2.
In singles play, Hephzibah Oluwadare provided the first point with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory over Kovalcik. Nao Nishino followed with her team-leading 30th win of the season, defeating Rylie Hanford 6-3, 6-4 to extend the lead to 3-0. No. 123 Spencer sealed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court five, advancing to the Super Regionals.
The No. 3 overall seed Buckeyes (25-4) will return home for the Super Regionals to host No. 14 Vanderbilt at the Auer Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
No. 8 Seed Ohio State Falls To No. 9 Seed Michigan 9-0 In Big Ten Softball Tournament
Ohio State’s season came to an end Wednesday as its rival Michigan rolled to a 9-0, five-inning victory over the Buckeyes in the opening round of the 2026 Big Ten Softball Tournament in College Park, Md.
The Wolverines struck first in the opening inning when designated player Indiana Langford reached on a leadoff bunt, then scored on an RBI single to left field by left fielder Ella Stephenson.
Michigan then added three more runs in the third inning. Catcher Lilly Vallimont led off with a solo home run, shortstop Kiley Carr scored on a single by second baseman Janelle Ilacqua, and third baseman Maddie Erickson scored on a passed ball, giving Michigan a 4-0 lead.
The Wolverines broke the game open with five runs in the fourth. Center fielder Jenissa Conway scored on an Ohio State throwing error, Carr crossed the plate on an Ilacqua infield single, and designated player Erin Hoehn drove in Erickson. Right fielder Lauren Putz capped the inning with a two-run single that scored Ilacqua and Hoehn.
Ohio State sophomore pitcher Lorin Boutte took the loss for the Buckeyes, while right-hander Gabby Ellis threw a five-inning shutout for Michigan. It was Ellis’ first complete- game shutout of the season.
Ohio State finished the season 13-12 in Big Ten play and made its 14th conference tournament appearance in program history.
