After just one season at Ohio State, safety Ja’Had Carter is entering the transfer portal again after coming to Columbus as a transfer from Syracuse a year ago.
Carter didn’t play much at Ohio State in his one season, getting into eight games and totaling five tackles in his time on the field. He battled with Josh Proctor and Malik Hartford for playing time and while he did get onto the field against Youngstown State while Proctor was out with an injury, it was the most consistent he would be on the field all season.
With transfer sophomore safety Caleb Downs joining the secondary and Lathan Ransom returning for another season, Carter’s playing time seemed to be in question for what will be his final year of college eligibility.
The Buckeyes now have six scholarship safeties on their roster with Downs, Ransom, Hartford, Jayden Bonsu, and freshmen Jaylen McClain and Leroy Roker joining the team in the fall.
Carter is the third Buckeye to leave through the spring transfer portal, joining safety Cedrick Hawkins, who ended up at UCF, and running back Dallan Hayden, who committed to Colorado.
