Ohio State is scheduled to face off against Dayton in an charity exhibition matchup set for October 22 at University of Dayton Arena.
The NCAA waiver-approved charity game announced Thursday will conclude a weekend-long community engagement event centered around championing adolescent and young adult mental health and suicide prevention.
The three-day event, organized by Dayton, was motivated by recent efforts made by Flyers head coach Anthony Grant and his wife Chris to raise awareness to the mental health resources offered to young adults and their loved ones. The Grant family lost their daughter Jayda at the age of 20 after a two-year battle with a mental illness.
“We look forward to partnering with Anthony and Dayton on this exhibition game at UD Arena,” head coach Chris Holtmann said. “Anthony’s willingness to share his family’s story in hopes of helping others is inspirational and we appreciate him including Ohio State in this event.”
All proceeds from the game, as well as the preceding events, will benefit the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation and the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Ohio.
The event will begin with an open town hall on Oct. 19 and 20 focused on discussing ways for individuals and families to find and utilize mental health resources.
More details regarding the game and surrounding events will be provided at a later date.
