Two more offseason Buckeye additions became “official” members of the team after Wednesday’s practice when offensive tackle Phillip Daniels and defensive end Beau Atkinson shed their black stripes.
Daniels has been trending in a positive direction lately in fall camp, and losing his black stripe is just another example of that. When Ryan Day and Tyler Bowen spoke about the Minnesota transfer, it became clear that he being considered in the battle for the starting right tackle spot.
Beau Atkinson is one of many edge rushers who will contribute for Ohio State in the 2025 season, and he has stood out in fall camp practices early on. As a spring portal addition, it took him just under two weeks to lose his black stripe.
Atkinson has a chance to start on a defensive line that is getting a full makeover from the 2024 version that included four seniors, but it will be a tough battle to earn that spot competing with Kenyatta Jackson Jr. — who seems like the most likely to earn a starting spot at this point — Caden Curry, C.J. Hicks and Logan George.
Regardless of whether he does start or not, Atkinson will likely be a major contributor for the 2025 team.
