Transfer Running Back CJ Donaldson Sheds Black Stripe

By August 6, 2025 (3:10 pm)Football

Just a day after being included on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, transfer running back CJ Donaldson lost his black stripe after Wednesday’s practice.

He’s the third player to lose his black stripe in fall camp, joining freshmen linebacker Riley Pettijohn and tight end Nate Roberts, who both lost theirs on Tuesday. Donaldson is the third transfer to lose his black stripe in 2025 after Max Klare and Ethan Onianwa did so during spring practices.

Donaldson will share the backfield this season with sophomore James Peoples, but the two will both be very important pieces to Ohio State’s offense.

Donaldson is coming off of back-to-back seasons with West Virginia in which he had 11 rushing touchdowns. He had 171 attempts for 798 yards in 2023 while adding nine catches for 59 yards and in 2024 he had 163 rushes for 734 yards plus 14 catches for 104 yards and a receiving touchdown.
