According to multiple reports, Ohio State is finalizing a deal to make former NFL head coach Arthur Smith its next offensive coordinator.
If he officially signs with Ohio State, Smith would bring in plenty of experience to Columbus. He was most recently the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he also spent three seasons as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2021-23.
Prior to being a head coach, Smith spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach on the staff of the Tennessee Titans. For his last two seasons, he was the offensive coordinator under then head coach and former Ohio State defensive lineman Mike Vrabel.
Smith helped the Titans reach the AFC Championship during the 2019-20 season.
The Falcons went 7-10 every year under Smith’s leadership, and he was ultimately fired after his third season as the head coach of the team.
However, Smith enjoyed more success as the offensive coordinator of the Steelers over the last two seasons. He helped the Steelers win the AFC North for the first time since 2020 this season.
Smith last coached in college football in 2010 when he was a defensive intern/administrative assistant at Ole Miss.
