Ohio State defensive end C.J. Hicks is entering the transfer portal, according to a report from On3 Sports.
Hicks, a former five-star linebacker recruit, spent four seasons with the Buckeyes, but never managed to make much of an impact.
Hicks was a linebacker during his first three seasons with Ohio State, but never became a starter. Playing in 25 games during his first two seasons at Ohio State, Hicks recorded 14 total tackles, including 1 for loss. Hicks was in a position battle with Sonny Styles for a starting linebacker spot ahead of last season, but he lost that battle and was relegated to a backup role.
Still, Hicks had his best season in 2024. That season, he recorded 22 total tackles, a pass deflection and two sacks. Hicks moved to defensive end ahead of this season, but wasn’t able to earn much playing time there either.
In four games, Hicks logged six total tackles, including one for loss, but announced he was redshirting midway through the season to preserve his eligibility.
Considering he redshirted midway through the season, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he is entering the transfer portal. Hicks will have one more year of eligibility remaining.
