Head coach Jake Diebler and Ohio State suffered a recruiting loss on Thursday night when former Texas Tech and first-team All-Big 12 guard Darrion Williams committed to NC State.

Williams, who averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Red Raiders last season, considered departing college basketball for the NBA before he ultimately withdrew his name from the draft on Tuesday.

Many believed the Buckeyes were firmly in the mix to gain Williams’ services but instead 247’s No. 6-ranked player in the transfer portal will join the squad of first-year NC State coach Will Wade.

Despite missing out on Williams, the Buckeyes’ transfer class is still an impressive one. Diebler added four new players from the portal, including former Indiana guard Gabe Cupps, former Wright State forward Brandon Noel, former Baylor forward Josh Ojianwuna and former Santa Clara center Christoph Tilly.
