
No. 20 Women’s Soccer Improves Win-Streak To Four, Shuts out Kentucky
The Buckeyes continued their early season dominance against the Wildcats.
Led by two goals from junior forward Amanda Schlueter, No. 20 Ohio State (4-1-1) defeated Kentucky (6-2) 2-0 Aug. 31 at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
Schlueter’s goals bracketed the Buckeyes’ win, she scored just four minutes in with a right-footed shot that came to her off a deflection from a Kentucky defender, then sealed Ohio State’s 2-0 victory in the 82nd minute by finishing a pass from midfielder Jacinda Bonham.
Buckeyes senior goalkeeper Molly Pritchard led the way defensively with four saves, earning her second shutout of the season. Ohio State held the Wildcats to just those four shots on target, despite Kentucky taking 13 total shots and eight corner kicks.
Next up, the Buckeyes host rival Michigan to open Big Ten play at 7 p.m. Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Men’s Soccer Falls Against In-State Rival
Coming off a 2025 Wolstein Classic Championship, the Buckeyes fell flat against the Zips.
Despite tallying two more shots on goal than Akron, Ohio State fell to the No. 11 Zips (4-0-1) 2-0 Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes led in shots on target seven to five.
After a scoreless opening half, redshirt sophomore midfielder Caleb Borneo scored both goals for Akron. He netted his first score in the 54th minute on a dish from sophomore forward Remi Agunbiade, and then knocked in the insurance goal in the 77th minute on a pass from freshman defender Jose Pedro.
The loss marked the first time Ohio State fell at home since the 2023 season, as the Buckeyes posted a 10-0-4 record at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium last season and were undefeated to start 2025.
Ohio State caps its four game home stand when it takes on Louisville Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Women’s Volleyball Earns First Victory, Splits Week
Ohio State rebounded from its opening weekend struggles with a five-set win over the RedHawks, but finished the week with a decisive loss to the Gators.
Thanks to a dominant fifth set, the Buckeyes (1-3) squeaked out their first victory of the season, defeating Miami (OH) (3-1) at Millett Hall in Oxford.
The Buckeyes fell behind 2-1 (15-25, 27-25, 25-27) midway through the match, and deep into the fourth set the RedHawks were up 25-24. However, needing to win by two, Ohio State scored the final three points to earn a 27-25 win to force a fifth and final set.
Ohio State showed no mercy In the final set, dominating Miami.15-3, to earn its first victory of the season as junior outside hitter Hannah Jones had a game- and- career-high 26 kills.
Against the No. 12 Florida (4-1), the Buckeyes gave the Gators a competitive match early, but ran out of gas quickly, falling in straight sets (23-25, 20-25, 14-25).
Jones’ team-high 12 kills wasn’t enough to stop the Gators’ ferocious attack with Florida hit 30.5 percent of its shots compared to Ohio State’s 16.5 percent.
The Buckeyes hit the road again for the Beavercreek Invitational — hosted by Wright State in Dayton — where they’ll take on Ohio at 3 p.m. Friday and the Raiders at 5 p.m. Saturday.
No. 13 Field Hockey Goes 0-2 At Big Ten/ACC Challenge
The Big Ten/ACC Challenge did not go as planned for the Buckeyes.
No. 13 Ohio State (2-2) opened its weekend with a 1-0 loss to No. 3 Virginia (3-0) in a defensive grudge match Friday at Buckeye Varsity Field. Sophomore midfielder Catalina Quinteros scored the lone goal of the game with just 10 minutes to play.
Despite the defeat, Ohio State held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks over Virginia.
Against No. 11 Syracuse (4-0), the Buckeyes were heartbroken once again, falling 2-1 in double overtime Sunday.
After the Orange struck first under a minute into the third quarter, senior back Katie Fichtner tied the game off an assist from graduate forward Makenna Webster and senior midfielder Riley Hudson.
Junior forward Hattie Madden netted the game winner for Syracuse five minutes into double overtime on an assist by graduate defender Bo van Kempen.
Coming up for Ohio State, the Buckeyes travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard Friday at 5 p.m.
