No. 25 Women’s Soccer Defeats UNCW For First Win
After a disappointing start to the year, the Buckeyes bounced back with a win over the UNC Wilmington.
On the back of a stifling defense and junior forward Lily Danner, No. 25 Ohio State (1-1-1) defeated the Seahawks (2-2) 1-0 on Sunday at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Danner gave the Buckeyes the lead in the 33rd minute, finding the goal from the edge of the six-yard box off a cross from junior forward Amanda Schlueter.
Ohio State dominated both halves, tallying 13 shots with five on target, while the Seahawks managed just three attempts, none of them on goal.
The Buckeyes aim to extend their win streak Thursday when they head to Princeton, N.J., to take on the Princeton Tigers at Roberts Stadium.
No. 3 Men’s Soccer Upset At Virginia Tech In Season Opener
After its most accomplished season in years, Ohio State’s men’s soccer team didn’t get off to the start it hoped for.
Hokies freshman forward Colin Beutel gave Virginia Tech (1-0) a 1-0 victory over the No. 3 Buckeyes (0-1) with a 41st minute goal on Aug. 21 at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.
Beutel’s shot was deflected in front of the Buckeyes goal before it found the back of the net. He was assisted by freshman forward Alvaro Ruiz-Mateos.
Both teams notched six shots, with Virginia Tech leading Ohio State in corners five to four.
Buckeyes keeper Max Trejo, who led the nation with a .533 goals-against-average in 2024, had one save on the day.
Next up, Ohio State opens its home slate against Oakland at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the Wolstein Classic. The event begins earlier that day with Dayton taking on Temple at 4 p.m.
