No. 6 Men’s Tennis Earns Upset Over No. 1 Wake Forest

Ohio State was dominant over the weekend as the Buckeyes downed No. 1 Wake Forest 4-0 on Saturday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus.

The Buckeyes opened the doubles portion with a 6-1 win as No. 5 Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin downed the Demon Deacons’ Kacper Szymkowiak and Aryan Shah, before Ohio State’s No. 10 Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo fell to Wake Forest’s No. 4 DK Suresh Ekambaram and Andrew Delgado 6-2 moments later. However, a 6-3 victory from Ohio State’s No. 3 Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima over Luca Pow and Charlie Robertson claimed the doubles point for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State then made quick work of Wake Forest in the singles matches as Nakashima earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mees Rottgering to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 advantage.

Shortly after, No. 51 Preston Stearns claimed a 6-3, 6-2 upset victory over No. 15-ranked Pow.

Filin then capped off Ohio State’s 4-0 victory over Wake Forest with a 7-6(3), 6-4 win over Joaquin Guilleme.

The sweep over the Demon Deacons moved the Buckeyes up five spots to second in the most recent ITA team poll. Ohio State also earned a 4-1 victory over No. 5 Texas last Friday.

No. 2 Ohio State (1-0) will look to continue its hot start to the season when it hosts No. 1 Virginia (6-0) on Saturday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

No. 2 Women’s Ice Hockey Completes Sweep Over No. 10 Minnesota Duluth

No. 2 Ohio State (25-3-0, 19-3-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) secured a pair of victories over No. 10 Minnesota Duluth (13-12-3, 9-10-3 WCHA), earning 6-2 and 3-1 wins Friday and Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.

The Buckeyes opened the series with a 6-2 victory, erupting for four first-period goals to take early control of the matchup, despite skating with just 13 players.

Forward Jocelyn Amos netted a hat trick, while forwards Kassidy Carmichel, Sloane Matthews and Jordan Baxter each added a score.

Ohio State went 2-for-4 on its power play attempts in the win as the Buckeyes killed seven of eight penalties.

Buckeye goaltender Hailey MacLeod made 32 saves and finished with a .941 save percentage.

It was a much closer affair in the second game of the series as the Buckeyes and Bulldogs left the first period tied at one apiece after goals from Baxter and forward Molly Cole.

However, a second-period goal from Amos, assisted by forwards Maxine Cimoroni and Matthews, as well as a third-period goal by forward Kaia Malachino, also assisted by Cimoroni and Matthews, clinched Ohio State’s 3-1 victory.

MacLeod also saved 32 shots in the Buckeyes second game of the series, improving her save percentage to .970.

Ohio State will hit the road to take on Wisconsin (24-2-2, 18-2-2 WCHA) in Madison on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

No. 10 Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Detroit Mercy In Season Opener

No. 10 Ohio State (1-0) opened the 2026 season in prevailing fashion, cruising past Detroit Mercy (0-1) 19-3 Sunday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to improve to 28-0 all-time in the facility.

Ohio State set the tone early, storming to a 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Midfielder Owen White ignited the Buckeyes’ season with the opening goal, as well as a pair of scores from attacker Garrett Haas and another made shot by attacker Alex Marinier, before Detroit Mercy finally answered at the 6:31 mark.

The Buckeyes and Titans then traded two goals apiece to give Ohio State a 6-2 advantage at the end of the period. Detroit Mercy’s Andrew Parker opened the second quarter with a goal just under two minutes in, but it was all Buckeyes from there.

Ohio State reeled off 13-straight goals to seal its 19-3 victory, with the Buckeyes tallying their most goals in a game since a 19-6 victory over Detroit Mercy in 2023.

Freshmen attackers Jack Deliberti and Winter Rivera, as well as sophomore attacker Colin Puckett, each scored the first goals of their careers in the fourth quarter.

Marinier led Ohio State with four goals, while Haas recorded four points with two goals and two assists. Jack Oldman dominated at the faceoff X, winning 12-of-14 attempts with nine ground balls as the Buckeyes controlled possession and won the ground ball battle 45-28.

Goaltender Caleb Fyock had three saves and a 50 percent save rate against the Titans.

Ohio State will return home at 3 p.m. on Feb. 7 to take on Cleveland State (0-1) at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.

No. 10 Ohio State (2-0) remained unbeaten on the season as the Buckeyes swept No. 15 Virginia (6-2) 4-0 on Sunday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus.

Ohio State’s 10th-ranked Perry then dominated Virginia’s No. 30 Yang 6-2, 6-4, before Johnson put the final nail in the coffin for the Buckeyes sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rolls.

Ohio State earned one of 16 spots in the ITA Team Indoor Championship, with opening rounds scheduled Friday through Sunday in Champaign and Evanston, Ill.

No. 10 Ohio State will then return home at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 when the Buckeyes take on No. 9 NC State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
