A Franklin County judge has granted a temporary restraining order against state rules barring high school athletes from entering into deals to profit from their name, image and likeness, ruling in favor of Ohio State commit Jamie Brown.

The five-star 2027 wide receiver sued the Ohio High School Athletic Association last week, arguing that he, and other high school athletes throughout the state of Ohio, should be able to priofit off of NIL.

Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Jaiza Page issued the temporary restraining order on Oct. 20, which nullifies OHSAA’s prohibition for now.

Brown’s attorneys argue that Brown has already missed out on over $100,000 of potential NIL profits. Ohio is one of six states in the country that doesn’t allow high school athletes to make money from NIL. OHSAA members rejected a rule change on NIL deals in 2022.

Brown tweeted a statement after the news of his lawsuit came out.

“I’m being raised by a single mom who’s always doing her best to keep things steady while helping me chase my goals on and off the field,” it read. “Like what’s allowed in other states, I want to be able to use my name, image and likeness to help my family financially and get the extra after-school academic help and football training that can help me maximize my potential. NIL can help make that possible for me and many other student-athletes in Ohio.”
