Ohio State Wanted Matchup With Texas Moved To Sunday, Report Says

According to a report from 247 Sports, Ohio State’s athletic department wanted to move its week one matchup with Texas to Sunday, Aug. 31, before the Longhorns said no. The opening game, which is currently slated for Saturday, Aug. 30, will be aired by Fox, which in recent years has been known to put its biggest game of the week in the Noon slot.

Much to the dismay of a portion of Buckeye fans, Ohio State was in the noon slot for its final six regular-season games of the year, five of which were aired by Fox.

After their request to move the week one contest to Sunday in the late afternoon or evening was shot down by the Longhorns, who may not have wanted to face a tougher night-time environment than one at Noon, the Buckeyes seem destined for another Noon kickoff.

The official announcement of the game time is expected soon, according to 247 Sports.

Whenever the CFP semifinal rematch is played between the Buckeyes and Longhorns, it could be one of the biggest regular-season matchups of the season. With both teams coming off of impressive 2024 seasons, the Buckeyes returning star players like Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs, and the Longhorns being led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning and star defenders like Anthony Hill Jr. and Colin Simmons, the week one contest will likely be a top-five matchup.
