The defending national champs are the new No. 1. Coming off its 14-7 win over preseason No. 1 Texas on Saturday, Ohio State was ranked as the top team in the country by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
The Buckeyes earned the honor after receiving 55 first-place votes. No. 2 Penn State (7 votes), No. 3 LSU (3 votes) and No. 6 Oregon (1 vote) were the only other teams to receive first-place votes in the poll.
Ohio State has been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for 107 weeks, a mark that is second only to Alabama (141 weeks at No. 1).
No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Miami, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Clemson, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 10 South Carolina made up the rest of the top-10. Including Ohio State, Penn State and Oregon the Big Ten had six teams in the top-25. The other three Big Ten teams ranked in the poll were No. 11 Illinois, No. 15 Michigan and No. 23 Indiana.
The conference’s six teams in the poll were second only to the SEC, which had 10 teams ranked in the top-25.
