Ohio State’s busy month of recruiting continued on Tuesday with the team’s fifth and final one-day camp of the season, and the session ended — as always — with the school handing out some offers to some happy campers.
The most notable scholarship given out after the camp was to Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna 2027 safety/wide receiver Angelo Smith (5-9, 160), whose high school and last name might be familiar to Buckeye fans as he is the younger brother of star sophomore wideout Jeremiah Smith.
Angelo has been a frequent visitor to his older brother’s school, also participating in the Buckeyes’ third camp of the month on June 10. He was joined by Jeremiah on the field that day, who watched his brother compete and even played catch with him after the session.
Smith does not have a composite ranking by 247Sports, but he is tabbed as a three-star prospect, the No. 29 safety in the country and No. 32 player out of Florida in his class. He also just has a pair of offers other than the Buckeyes, getting one from his home state Hurricanes as well as Toledo. While Angelo’s recruitment has yet to come close to the hype his older brother received coming out of Chaminade-Madonna, he still believes he can eclipse his brother’s stardom and talents when he gets to the collegiate level.
“I feel like I’m going to be a better player than him, I know that,” he told Eleven Warriors. “I play both sides of the ball. I’m definitely a game-changer.”
Smith is not the only legacy Buckeye to receive an offer this spring. Ohio State also sent an offer on May 12 Philadelphia St. Joseph’s wide receiver Jett Harrison (6-1, 175), the younger brother of former Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
He is also not the only high schooler to be offered after Tuesday’s camp. Also earning a scholarship was Louisville (Ky.) Atherton 2028 cornerback Grayden Reid (6-3, 185), Chicago Mount Carmel four-star cornerback Taveres Harrington (6-3, 175), Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy five-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman (6-0, 174), Haymarket (Va.) Battlefield four-star linebacker Noah Glover (6-2, 202), Carencro (La.) Cecilia four-star athlete Braylon Calais (6-2, 195) and San Mateo (Calif.) Junipero Serra three-star safety Malakai Taufoou (6-2, 175).
