Ohio State has a recruit who will be in the McDonald’s All-American Game for the first time in over a decade, with five-star small forward Anthony Thompson being named to the team on Monday.

The last time a Buckeye commit played in the game was in 2014 when D’Angelo Russell was a McDonald’s All-American.

Thompson signed with Ohio State in November, along with four-star power forward Alex Smith, and is set to join the Buckeyes as the highest-ranked recruit to sign with the program since Jared Sullinger in 2010.

“Anthony is a special player. His combination of size, skill, and athleticism gives him unique versatility,” head coach Jake Diebler said in a statement when Thompson signed with the Buckeyes. “Who he is, aligns with what our program is all about and the basketball IQ he has will help him be really impactful right away. Being from Ohio and coming to Ohio State means something to him, and we are excited for Anthony and his family to join ours!”

Thompson is considered by 247Sports composite rankings to be the No. 8 player in the 2027 class, No. 3 at his position and he is the top player in the state. The 6-8 forward has a 7-3 wingspan and averaged 21.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals for Western Reserve Academy in his junior season.

The McDonald’s All-American Game is set to take place on March 31 in Glendale, Ariz., with a 9 p.m. tipoff. The game will be televised on ESPN.
