Michigan Star Running Back Justice Haynes Probably Out Against Ohio State

After speculation that Michigan junior running back Justice Haynes might return for The Game, Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore quickly shut down that possibility.

In Moore’s weekly press conference Monday, Moore said that Haynes will “probably” be out for the remainder of the regular season after 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that the junior running back would undergo foot surgery on his injured foot Nov. 2. Michigan takes on Maryland in College Park this weekend before returning home against No. 1 Ohio State Nov. 29.

Though there is still a chance Haynes could return for the postseason, it’s unlikely the Alpharetta, Ga. native returns for Michigan this season.

Haynes was dominant for the Wolverines through the first seven games of the season, racking up 857 yards on 121 carries for an average of 7.1 yards per carry, which was the fourth-best average in the country and the top mark in the Big Ten at the time of his injury.

With Haynes out, sophomore running back Jordan Marshall has stepped up for Michigan in emphatic fashion. In 10 games of action, Marshall has taken 143 carries for 871 yards and 10 touchdowns, while adding eight receptions for 82 yards. Marshall has rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown in each of his last three contests for the Wolverines.
