A historic season came to an end on May 11 for the Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse team when it was defeated 15-6 by Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Just eight days after winning the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in program history, Ohio State was doomed by a disastrous second period, when it allowed six straight goals to fall behind 7-4 heading into the third period.

Despite an early goal, Ohio State’s fortunes didn’t change in the third period, instead, the Fighting Irish scored four straight goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead.

Any hope the Buckeyes may have had of a comeback was quickly erased by the Fighting Irish, who tallied a 12th goal in the first 43 seconds of the final period. Notre Dame ended the match with three straight goals to give the Buckeyes their fourth loss of the season.

Despite the loss, it was still a strong season for the Buckeyes, who previously defeated Notre Dame in the regular season on March 8, 10-9. Not only did head coach Nick Myers’ program win the Big Ten Tournament but at 4-1 they won the Big Ten regular-season title for the first time in program history.
