One week after being arrested, Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff pleaded not guilty to an OVI charge on Tuesday.

McGuff, who has led the Buckeyes’ women’s basketball program since 2013, was represented by defense attorney Rick Piatt at the hearing and did not show up himself. Piatt was granted a request to stay McGuff’s license suspension.

McGuff was arrested on May 6 after he failed multiple sobriety tests and drove through someone’s yard, according to a police report obtained by NBC 4. The report said that McGuff refused to take a breath sample and therefore had his license taken away.

Ohio State athletics said in a statement on Monday that they were aware of the incident involving McGuff.

“The department is in communication with Coach McGuff and monitoring the situation closely. This is an ongoing, personal legal matter, and the department will share additional information at the appropriate time,” Ohio State said.
