The honors keep coming for redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin after he picked apart the Wisconsin defense in the 34-0 win at Camp Randall Stadium on Oct. 18.
Sayin adds to his Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and conference Freshman of the Week accolades he earned. Sayin completed 36 of 42 passes in the game (85.7 percent) to raise his season completion percentage to a nation-leading 80.0 percent. He threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
In the first quarter, Sayin completed 14 of 15 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns, both to Carnell Tate, who finished the game with six catches for 111 yards.
Sayin was already a down ballot candidate for the Heisman Trophy due to his early season performance, but the game he had against the Badgers skyrocketed him into one of the top candidates, along with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
On the season, Sayin has completed 156 of 193 passes for 19 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has not thrown an interception against a Power Four team. He is No. 2 in passer efficiency (189.7), and his 19 touchdowns are fourth in the nation.
