Ohio State’s redshirt freshman quarterback has been included as a semifinalist for a national freshman award.

Julian Sayin was included on a list of 14 players as a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award.

Sayin has skyrocketed into being the frontrunner in the race for the Heisman Trophy after his performance against Penn State in a 38-14 win. He was 20-of-23 passing in the game for 316 yards and four touchdowns in the game.

On the season, Sayin has completed 176 of 218 passes (80.7 percent) for 23 touchdowns and three interceptions. As the current Heisman favorite on multiple platforms, Sayin is likely currently the favorite to take home the Freshman of the Year award as well.

The Buckeyes have not had a player win the award in its seven-year history, but safety Caleb Downs received the accolade for his impressive season at Alabama as a true freshman before he transferred to play for the Buckeyes.
