Ohio State will be represented in New York at the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Dec. 13, with redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin as one of four finalists named for the award.
He will be at the ceremony with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the current favorite to win the trophy after coming out on top in the battle against Sayin and the Buckeyes on Dec. 6 in the Big Ten championship. Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia will also be there as the other two finalists.
Ohio State has had seven players win the Heisman in program history, but hasn’t had a winner since Troy Smith in 2006, although there have been many Buckeye finalists.
The most recent finalist from the Scarlet and Gray was wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2023, who continued a streak of three straight years with an OSU finalist after C.J. Stroud was in New York the two years prior.
Sayin has reached this point by completing 279 of 356 passes for a nation-leading completion percentage of 78.4, while throwing for 3,323 yards, 31 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Those numbers have also made him a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Year Award as well as the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
The Heisman Trophy ceremony will be at 8 p.m. on Dec. 13 on ESPN.
