Freshman Tight End Nate Roberts Sheds Black Stripe

By August 5, 2025 (2:55 pm)Football

Freshman tight end Nate Roberts was the second of two freshmen to shed his black stripe after Tuesday’s practice, joining linebacker Riley Pettijohn.

Roberts and Pettijohn were the first two players in fall camp to lose their black stripes. They join wide receiver Quincy Porter as the only freshmen to lose their black stripes in 2025 so far, though there will likely be a few more this fall.

Roberts came into Ohio State as a four-star recruit and the No. 10 tight end in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He already seems to be making what is a deep tight end group even better early on.

While it will be tough for Roberts to earn a prominent role in Ohio State’s offense with Max Klare, Jelani Thurman, Will Kacmarek, Bennett Christian and others all competing for playing time, he has already made a good impression on his coaches since enrolling at Ohio State early.
