Freshman Cornerback Devin Sanchez Sheds Black Stripe

By August 6, 2025 (3:47 pm)Football

Ohio State freshman cornerback Devin Sanchez became an “official member” of the team on Wednesday when he had his black stripe removed.

Sanchez, a five-star recruit out of the 2025 class, could immediately make an impact on Ohio State’s defense in year one. Sanchez is currently thought to be a backup at cornerback behind veteran players at the position like Davison Igbinosun, Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Lorenzo Styles Jr., but the removal of his black stripe is an encouraging sign for the native of Houston, Texas.

Sanchez, the No. 8-ranked player in the 2025 class, No. 1 cornerback and No. 4 player from Texas, is the third player to have his black stripe removed so far in fall camp. Sanchez joins linebacker Riley Pettijohn, wide receiver Quincy Porter and tight end Nate Roberts as one of four freshmen from the 2025 class to have their black stripes removed.
