Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class took a blow on Wednesday as Avon (Ohio) four-star safety Jakob Weatherspoon (5-10, 172) flipped to North Carolina.
Weatherspoon had been committed to Ohio State since Jan. 2 but now appears to be headed to North Carolina to join head coach Bill Belichick’s squad.
Weatherspoon’s departure leaves Ohio State with a 2026 recruiting class that consists of 20 pledges and is ranked No. 7 in the nation by 247 Sports’ team rankings.
Although Weatherspoon is now committed to North Carolina, Ohio State’s safety class is still in solid shape with commitments from Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic five-star Blaine Bradford (6-1, 207) and Jacksonville (Fla.) The Bolles School four-star Simeon Caldwell (6-3,185).
