Junior forward Devin Royal will be out for Ohio State’s 6:30 p.m. game against App State while he deals with a hip injury. Sophomore guard John Mobley Jr. is listed as questionable for the contest.
When the second half of Ohio State’s 94-68 win over Purdue Fort Wayne started, Royal was not on the court with his teammates and was seen on an exercise bike. He ended up getting back into the game and scoring six points on two three-pointers in the second half.
Asked about Royal’s status on Monday, head coach Jake Diebler said he isn’t anticipating that it will be a long-term issue for the junior, but they are being careful since it’s early in the season.
With Royal out, if the Buckeyes want to remain big, they could go with Amare Bynum in the lineup in Royal’s place. But when Royal was out to begin the second half in the Buckeyes’ Friday contest, it was Gabe Cupps on the floor in his place.
