Following the disappointing sophomore campaigns of now outgoing transfers Aaron Bradshaw and Sean Stewart, Ohio State and Jake Diebler have taken a much different approach to the transfer portal this offseason, with the program looking to add more for established, veteran players rather than younger players with high ceilings.

This changed outlook has been put into practice with the additions of players such as Christoph Tilly (Santa Clara), Brandon Noel (Wright State) and Josh Ojianwuna (Baylor), and it appears the Buckeyes are still not done trying to add similar veteran talent. On3’s Joe Tipton reported on Tuesday that transfer forward Devan Cambridge — who was recently granted a seventh year of eligibility from the NCAA — is set to visit Ohio State on Monday.

The Cambridge name is a familiar one for Buckeyes’ hoops fans. Devan is the older brother of Ohio State women’s basketball players Jaloni and Kennedy Cambridge, who helped lead Ohio State to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season. Unlike his Big Ten Freshman of the Year sister Jaloni, Devan has over a half decade of experience under his belt in college basketball playing for three different teams.

He began his career in 2019-20 at Auburn and had three successful seasons with the Bruce Pearl-led Tigers from 2019-22, most notably averaging 8.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 27 games (19 starts) his sophomore year. Cambridge then hit the transfer portal and signed with Arizona State, where he played from 2022-23 and averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

But that was his last healthy season. Cambridge transferred to Texas Tech in 2023-24 as a fifth-year senior but played just eight games before suffering a season-ending torn ACL. After receiving a sixth year of eligibility due to the injury, he played six games in 2024-25 before deciding to leave the program to seek a medical hardship waiver.

That waiver has since been granted, and he will now look to use it to finish his career on his fourth collegiate team. In addition to his trip to Columbus, Cambridge — who is averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds across his six-year career — is visiting Pittsburgh on Wednesday and is also considering a visit to Mississippi State. The veteran also told On3 that he’s also heard from North Carolina, Arizona, Arizona State, Seton Hall, and Pepperdine.

Cambridge would occupy the final roster spot for the Buckeyes in 2025-26 if he pledges, a spot that they have been trying to fill with a wing or backcourt player. Ohio State has also been linked to Cambridge’s former teammate and first-team All-Big 12 forward Darrion Williams, who is competing at the NBA Scouting Combine but could return for his senior season, as well as former High Point guard Kezza Giffa (14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game last season) and former FAU forward Baba Miller (11. 3, 7.0, 2.7), among others.
