Former OSU Guard Earns All-Star Honors

Former Ohio State and current Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell was named a WNBA All-Star for the third time in her career on Sunday.

Mitchell earned the honor amid a stellar eighth season for the Fever. Mitchell, who played for the Buckeyes from 2015-18, is averaging a career-best 19.3 points, 2.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game on 45.5 percent shooting. Playing in all of the Fever’s 18 games so far this season, Mitchell has provided some much-needed stability for Indiana, which has been without 2024 Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark for much of the season. After helping take the Fever to the playoffs in 2024 for the first time since 2016, Clark has missed nine games with injury. In Clark’s absence, Mitchell has kept the Fever afloat and even helped the team capture the Commissioner’s Cup, the WNBA’s in-season tournament.

Mitchell, who for her WNBA career is averaging 17.0 points per game, was an even better scorer in Columbus. For the Buckeyes, Mitchell averaged 24.5 points, 3.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game and was a four-time All-American. Mitchell exited Columbus as the Big Ten’s all-time leading scorer, and now ranks only behind her current teammate and former Iowa guard Clark in the all-time scoring list.
