Former Ohio State wrestler Sammy Sasso was arrested during a traffic stop in Pennsylvania after officers found several firearms and THC cartridges in his vehicle.
Sasso, who was shot in 2023 in a carjacking attempt, was charged with carrying firearms without a valid concealed carry license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating an unregistered vehicle, according to the Nazareth Borough Police Department.
Just after 7 p.m. on July 16, an officer pulled Sasso over for an expired Ohio registration, according to Nazareth Borough police. Sasso was asked if he had any firearms in the car, to which he admitted having in the driver’s side door and told the officer he didn’t have a concealed carry license for it.
The officer requested Sasso step out of the vehicle, which he did. The officer then reported a strong odor of marijuana and saw what appeared to be dispensary marijuana packaging in the back seat.
According to the report, the officer then received permission from Sasso to search the car. Inside, the officer found two vape cartridges with THC oil and a separate canister that contained “remnants of a green leafy substance.”
In the trunk, the officer found a red Ohio State backpack, which he asked if he had permission to search, and Sasso declined. The officer paused the search so that he could obtain a search warrant while a Nazareth Borough sergeant arrived and asked Sasso what was in the backpack. Sasso then told the officer that the bag contained additional firearms, and Sasso was arrested.
Sasso was arraigned and issued a $35,000 bond, which was posted on July 17 by his mother
