Former Ohio State receiver Garrett Wilson appears to be locked in with the New York Jets for the long haul. The former first-round pick signed a 4-year, $130 million extension with the Jets on Monday that will make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.
Wilson, whose deal will give him $90 million in guaranteed money, showed his appreciation for the Jets in a tweet sent out on Tuesday.
“Yup, Jets green has been running through me since the day they drafted me,” Wilson wrote on Twitter. “Despite the ups and downs, the faith is mutual… that means the world to me. Excited to start a new version of the chase next week.”
Wilson, who played at Ohio State from 2019-21, earned All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore and a junior, and for his career hauled in 143 receptions for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns.
After forgoing his senior season to go to the NFL, Wilson was selected by the Jets with the 10th overall pick in the 2022 draft. It didn’t take long at all for Wilson’s game to translate to the professional level. As a rookie, Wilson hauled in 83 passes for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns on the way to winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Wilson followed his spectacular debut with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2023 and 2024.
In 2025, Wilson will be reunited with his former Ohio State teammate and quarterback Justin Fields. Fields, who threw to Wilson during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, signed a 2-year $40 million contract with the Jets over the offseason and is set to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2025.
