Former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley took one step closer to the PGA Tour on Sunday when he won his second Korn Ferry event of the season.

Shipley, a Buckeye for two seasons from 2022-24, won The Ascendant at TPC Colorado in Berthoud, Colorado, with a final score of -18, defeating runners-up Kevin Dougherty and Jorge Fernandez-Valdes by one stroke.

Shipley, who is in his first year on the Korn Ferry, a development tour for the PGA Tour, won the event despite entering the final round in a tie for ninth and seven strokes behind then-leader Ross Steelman. While Steelman struggled throughout the day and shot a 75, Shipley made 8 birdies and an eagle on the way to a round of 64.

Much like his first win of the season at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in April, Shipley pulled off the victory in dramatic fashion, as he birdied the final hole to fend off Dougherty and Fernandez-Valdes.

With the win, Shipley moved from 10th to fourth on the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list, and because the top-30 players on the points list receive PGA Tour cards at the end of the season, he is well on track to earn the promotion.
