Former star Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
It will be the seventh team Apple has played for in his nine-year career since he left the Buckeyes. During his time in the NFL, he has accumulated 383 tackles, 61 passes defended and six interceptions.
After being drafted by the New York Giants in 2016 with the No. 10 overall selection, Apple has been with the New Orleans Saints, the Carolina Panthers, the Cincinnati Bengals and has also had short stints with the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Chargers most recently.
He played in just four regular season games with former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers last year, with just two tackles and one pass broken up.
However, he could have a chance to revitalize his career in San Francisco, where the 49ers are looking for more stability when it comes to secondary depth. If nothing else, his veteran presence and knowledge could prove very valuable with a young cornerback group.
