Following Sherrone Moore’s arraignment Friday morning, the former Michigan head coach was charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, as well as breaking and entering.

Moore has been in custody since late Wednesday afternoon, after he was reportedly detained by police in Saline, Mich., when officers responded to a call regarding an alleged assault. Moore was then turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation where he spent the last two days in jail following his arrest.

According to the prosecutor, the woman Moore reportedly had relations with broke up with him Monday morning before coming forward to Michigan regents regarding their relationship.

Following Moore’s firing Wednesday afternoon, he reportedly went into the woman’s house where he grabbed her butter knives and scissors and threatened to hurt the victim and himself, the victim reported.

Moore’s attorney, Joseph Simon, told local counsel that “(Sherrone Moore) is 39 years old, zero prior criminal history, zero contact with the criminal justice system… there’s no evidence to suggest he’s a threat to public safety.”

Magistrate Odetalla M. Odetalla also ruled that Moore must continue his treatment for mental health, avoid contact with the woman as well as refraining from the use of alcohol, marijuana or any prescribed substances while he’s out on bond.

The third-degree home invasion is a felony charge, while the other two charges are listed as misdemeanors. The home invasion charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $2,000 fine. The stalking charge is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, while breaking and entering can earn an offender up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Moore’s next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2026.
