Ohio State made its first addition in the transfer portal, with former Cal guard Justin Pippen committing to the Buckeyes on April 10.
Pippen, the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, has two years of eligibility remaining, and will be at his third school in three years. He started his college career at Michigan, where he played in 28 games and scored just 1.6 points per game.
Then, as a sophomore at Cal, Pippen broke out with 14.2 points, 4.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. His performance earned him honorable mention All-ACC honors.
With the Buckeyes losing four-year captain Bruce Thornton, they were in need of a starting point guard, and the 6-3, 180-pound Cal transfer could be that player for the 2026-27 season.
Pippen’s 4.6 assists per game last year would have led the Buckeyes, so his passing ability and willingness to find the open man could prove to be a great addition for the scorers on Ohio State’s roster.
The Buckeyes have lost guards Gabe Cupps and Taison Chatman, and forwards Devin Royal and Colin White to the portal, so there are certainly more portal additions coming for them, but Pippen is a solid first addition.
