Ohio State gained a massive commitment in its 2027 class when five-star defensive ed DJ Jacobs pledged his services to the Buckeyes on Monday.
He’s the No. 8 player overall in the class and the No. 1 edge rusher and chose the Buckeyes over multiple other top programs, including Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon and Miami (Fla.).
Out of Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Ga., the Bulldogs were thought to be the favorite for Jacobs, especially since his father, David Jacobs, played for Georgia from 1999-2002.
The five star finished his junior season with 102 tackles, 24 for loss, 16 sacks and two forced fumbles in just 11 games after a sophomore season in which he racked up 112 stops, 35 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He was also a MaxPreps Freshman All-American the year before.
Jacobs is the ninth overall commitment in Ohio State’s 2027 class, and is the second highest-rated player, with five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown ranked at No. 6 in the country.
Jacobs is the first commitment for defensive line coach Larry Johnson in the 2026 class, and he is the fourth defensive player, joining safeties three-star Angelo Smith and four-star Eli Johnson and four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher, who committed just 10 days before Jacobs.
