Philadelphia Eagles Waive Former Ohio State Quarterback Kyle McCord After Preseason

Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles following their preseason training camp.

Philadelphia selected McCord with the 181st pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft but the Mt. Laurel, N.J., native was released from the team after a turbulent preseason for Eagles quarterbacks.

McCord was fighting for Philadelphia’s third-string spot before Eagles second-stringer Tanner McKee suffered a fractured thumb in the team’s fall camp practice Aug. 18.

After McKee’s injury, the Eagles acquired quarterback Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings in a trade.  The team also signed Carson Wentz, pushing McCord out of the competition for a spot on the roster.

McCord was the second Philadelphia quarterback waived prior to the season, joining Dorian Thompson-Robinson who was cut by the team Sunday.

In preseason, McCord completed just 24 of 56 passes for 191 yards and a score. He posted a 42.9 percent completion percentage and also tossed two interceptions.

He is coming off of a season in which he set an ACC record with 4,779 passing yards in a single season a year after transferring out of Ohio State.

McCord will now be available to be claimed after being released, but he will end up a free agent if he isn’t.
